After listening to your reaction to the news that Multiple Myeloma M- Moving Together Toward the Cure was moving to the fall marathon, we are happy to announce our participation in both Spring and Fall events! Our commitment to raising funds for Multiple Myeloma Research, and ultimately a cure, is so strong that we want to take advantage of every opportunity! You can now join the M-Moving Together Toward the Cure Team at either the May 15th GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon or the October 16th Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Choose which date works best for you, your friends and family, and your fundraising goals -- all monies raised will support Multiple Myeloma Research at Princess Margaret Hospital. If you decide to join us on May 15th at Queen's Park, you will want to note the new 5 k start time of 10:00 am as we walk, or run, with our supporters cheering from the sidelines! This year, fundraising pages are not linked to event registration - that means regardless of your distance (5K, Full /Half Marathon, or Relay) we will all be fundraising together at www.mm5kwalk.ca! It also means that you can choose to participate virtually by just signing up for a fundraising page if you're not planning to participate on Race Day. It's easy to get started.... 1. Visit www.mm5kwalk.ca to sign up for your free fundraising page today -- if you are planning to be a virtual participant you are now done and can start your fundraising! 2. If you are going to walk or run in the event, visit www.torontomarathon.com to register for your preferred distance. Please note that registration fees increase after March 31st so don't delay! For those of you aren't quite ready to dust off the running shoes, please stay tuned for the new website launch in May as we participate in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on October 16th.
Thanks to the incredible contributions raised from past MM5K Walks and the generous support of private and corporate donors, The Molly and David Bloom Chair for Multiple Myeloma Research Chair was established in 2009. It is the very first Multiple Myeloma Research Chair in Canada and only the second Chair in North America! The inaugural Bloom Chair holder, PMH's Dr. Donna Reece, plays a vital role by developing a collaborative environment where gifted scientists and expert clinicians conduct innovative research projects and provide excellent patient care. Dr. Roger Tiedemann, a New Zealand trained hematologist/oncologist, has joined the incredible PMH team of Multiple Myeloma experts and comes to us via Scottsdale, Arizona’s Mayo Clinic. The addition of Dr. Tiedemann to our team of experts is a direct result of what our fundraising dollars can do. We warmly welcome Dr. Tiedemann to PMH. The Princess Margaret Hospital is a major, international centre for Multiple Myeloma research and is on the cutting edge of innovative, life-extending treatments.
Let's keep M-Moving Together Toward The Cure!
